Mycotoxin Management in DDGS - Maximizing Your Profits

Webinars

As part of the ethanol production process, biorefineries remove the starch component from the grain source. This concentrates the remaining nutrients by a factor of 3 or 4 times in the resulting coproduct, DDGS. Unfortunately, this concentration also applies to some undesirable characteristics such as mycotoxins which can adversely affect animal health and performance. Livestock producers and nutritionists recognize that feeding DDGS can support optimal animal performance, reduce feed costs, and improve profitability. As a result, the industry has continued to learn more about mycotoxins in DDGS and how producers can feed those DDGS without affecting livestock performance.

Key Learning Points

  1. Review of mycotoxin terminology
  2. Conditions for mycotoxin growth
  3. How mycotoxins affects livestock (dairy, beef, poultry, swine)
  4. Formulation strategies for DDGS with mycotoxins
  5. Overview of biorefinery mitigation efforts related to mycotoxins
