The profile of Dakota Gold fits naturally with that of a lactating dairy cow. Low fat, high digestibility fiber and protein are the perfect blend for optimized milk production. Learn more about Dakota Gold characteristics.
The objective of this study was to use total collection and indirect calorimetry techniques to investigate the effect of including RFDDGS on energy and N utilization in lactating cow diets when replacing corn grain and soybean meal.
Dietary fat from DDGS can be used in high-plane of nutrition rations for growing heifers and maintain metabolic energy status compared with starch from corn, but alters the concentrations of different blood lipids.
Using DDGS or low-fat DDGS with corn in growing heifer rations can maintain performance. Utilizing the fat in DDGS as a dietary energy source in replacement of starch from corn did not influence growth performance or negatively affect nutrient digestion.
Producers can feed either DDGS or LFDG with corn in replacement of soybean products and corn to prepubertal heifers and maintain or enhance subsequent reproductive and lactation performance. Dietary fat from DDGS can replace starch from corn as an energy source for prepubertal heifers without detriment to later performance.
